The Toronto Maple Leafs have confirmed that center Scott Laughton will be out week-to-week due to a lower-body injury sustained during a recent preseason game against the Detroit Red Wings.
Laughton, aged 31, was injured in Thursday’s match, which ended in a 3-1 loss for the Maple Leafs. As a result of his absence, David Kampf is expected to step in on the team’s fourth line, alongside Steven Lorentz and rookie winger Easton Cowan.
Last year, the Maple Leafs acquired Laughton from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Nikita Grebenkin, a 2027 first-round draft pick, a 2025 4th-round draft pick, and a 2027 6th-round draft pick. During his time with the team, Laughton contributed two goals and four points in 20 regular-season games, along with two assists in 13 playoff appearances.
Currently in the final year of his contract, Laughton is earning $1.5 million from the Maple Leafs, with Philadelphia retaining 50% of his deal following the trade.
Having spent 12 seasons with the Flyers since his debut in the 2012-13 season, Laughton achieved a career-best performance in 2022-23 with 18 goals and 43 points in 78 games.
