“Montreal Shock: Young Children Discover Crack Pipe on School Playground Adjacent to Injection Site”

Two children made a startling discovery while playing on the playground at Victor-Rousselot Elementary on Wednesday – they found a crack pipe. The school, located next to the Maison Benoit Labre supervised injection site, was the scene of this concerning incident.

A concerned parent, choosing to remain anonymous, shared that her child may have come in contact with the pipe, prompting a visit to the hospital to ensure no harm was done to his health.

In a letter addressed to parents, the school principal confirmed the discovery of a suspicious object, described as “inhalation paraphernalia,” on the playground. Following this incident, staff from Maison Benoit Labre will now conduct additional cleaning patrols in the playground and its vicinity before lunchtime, in addition to the existing patrols before classes start.

Responding to inquiries, Andréane Désilets, the General Manager of Maison Benoît Labre expressed deep concern over the incident. Necessary steps have been taken to enhance student safety, with assurances that this is an isolated case and measures are in place to prevent a recurrence.

Lionel Carmant, Minister Responsible for Social Services, was briefed on the matter and emphasized the importance of maintaining a conducive environment in the area. He highlighted ongoing efforts, including the implementation of a brigade for promoting cohabitation and increased patrols to prevent similar incidents.

Carmant introduced Bill 103 to regulate supervised consumption sites more effectively, with a focus on ensuring the well-being of children and the community. Despite the potential cost of relocating the supervised injection site, safety remains a top priority.
