Second Arson Blaze Strikes: Montreal Car Torched in Driveway, Escalating Fears

Montreal police are looking into a second suspected arson incident at a residence in the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough, occurring within a span of less than two months.

According to SPVM spokesperson Véronique Dubuc, the most recent incident took place at approximately 1:40 a.m. on Saturday. Authorities were alerted to a vehicle ablaze in the private parking lot of a property on Languedoc Ave.

Witnesses informed officers that they observed a suspect hurling an object towards the parked car, resulting in it catching fire. The suspect managed to flee the scene before the arrival of the police.

A bystander recounted to CityNews hearing a loud crash resembling the sound of breaking glass, followed by flames emerging from a neighbor’s vehicle. The witness reported seeing an individual clad in black running towards Rosemont Blvd., prompting them to warn the residents and contact law enforcement.

Firefighters swiftly brought the fire under control, and the affected vehicle was removed for further examination by the SPVM’s arson unit. Fortunately, no injuries were sustained, and no arrests have been carried out.

This recent incident follows a previous fire that occurred on August 17 at the same location, resulting in damage to the front doors of two residences.
