York Regional Police Arrest Six Men Tied to Gun and Drug Rings, Slapping Them with 21 Combined Charges

Police in York Region have apprehended six individuals and levied a total of 21 charges against them in connection with three distinct drug and firearm probes.

The chain of events commenced on August 1 when the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) flagged a package from China at a mail sorting hub in Mississauga. Inside the parcel were stun guns intended for an address in York Region, as per the authorities.

Subsequently, the Guns, Gangs, and Drug Enforcement Unit of the local police force initiated an inquiry and executed a search warrant at a residence in Newmarket on August 27. This operation resulted in the confiscation of two firearms, eight stun guns, ammunition, brass knuckles, a spring-loaded knife, and controlled substances.

Randy Riffert, a 62-year-old resident of Newmarket, was apprehended and charged with seven offenses as a consequence of the investigation.

In a separate sequence of events, a 28-year-old individual named Tuqur Jones from Newmarket came under scrutiny for allegedly breaching his release conditions. Jones, along with two associates, was arrested in Toronto, where a firearm was seized from their vehicle. The other individuals were identified as Trevon Brown-Toppin and Taevon Wisdom, both aged 21.

Jones faced a series of charges including breaching probation, non-compliance with release orders, and possessing firearms or ammunition against a prohibition order. Brown-Toppin was slapped with an additional charge for disobeying a court directive.

The law enforcement authorities made further arrests on September 15 as part of a third investigation into drugs and firearms. Francesco Romeo, 22, who had outstanding warrants for failing to comply with release orders, was apprehended in Richmond Hill, along with Pavlos Glover, 22. A firearm and controlled substances were seized during their arrest.

Romeo and Glover were both charged with several offenses related to firearms and drugs, with Romeo facing additional charges for non-compliance with a release order and failing to show up in court.
