The office responsible for safeguarding the French language in Quebec conducted nearly 10,000 inspections in the past year to crackdown on businesses violating language laws.
Between April 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025, a total of 9,813 inspections were carried out, marking a significant 47% increase from the preceding two years, as outlined in the office’s latest annual report released on Thursday.
The surge in inspections was prompted by a rise in complaints and proactive monitoring by the office. A total of 10,371 complaints were received between April and March, with the majority related to businesses not using French in their services, stores, websites, and signage.
