The Montreal Canadiens have secured the future of their front office with contract extensions for Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes, acknowledging their pivotal roles in the team’s ongoing rebuild. Gorton, the president of hockey operations, and general manager Hughes have both signed multi-year extensions, solidifying their commitment to the organization.
Owner and CEO Geoff Molson expressed his satisfaction with the extensions, praising Gorton and Hughes for their relentless efforts in shaping the Canadiens into a competitive and well-rounded team. Under their leadership, the Canadiens have been transformed with a focus on talent, size, and speed, supported by a strong organizational structure.
Gorton, who joined the Canadiens in 2021, brought Hughes on board as general manager in 2022. Together, they orchestrated a rapid rebuild of the team following the dismantling of the veteran core that reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2021. Their strategic decisions, including the appointment of head coach Martin St. Louis and key player acquisitions through the draft and trades, have been instrumental in the team’s progress.
In response to the contract extensions, Gorton expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and Hughes by Molson. He emphasized their collective belief in the team’s advancement and competitiveness moving forward, attributing their success to the dedication of the entire staff and the unwavering support of the Canadiens’ loyal fan base.
