New West PD Cracks Decades-Old Sex Crime Case, Suspect Now Behind Bars

A man, aged 58, has been taken into custody following an inquiry into past accusations of sexual misconduct, according to the New Westminster Police Department.

Ronald Veit, a resident of Surrey, is now confronting a series of charges linked to incidents that allegedly occurred between 2008 and 2012 in various areas throughout the Lower Mainland. The accusations against him involve sexual interference, exploitation, and assault.

“While charges have been filed, it’s important to note that these are merely allegations and have not yet been proven in court,” stated New West PD.

In response to the situation, law enforcement officials are collaborating with the Victim Assistance Unit to provide support to those affected. “We acknowledge the difficulties faced by victims in coming forward with such incidents and want to emphasize that we are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness, ensuring that resources and assistance are readily available,” affirmed Sgt. Andrew Leaver.

Veit has been released under specific conditions, including prohibitions on possessing weapons, volunteering with minors, and visiting certain locations such as parks, community centers, schools, and playgrounds. However, he is allowed to attend skating rinks where he can coach hockey as long as other adults are present.

Individuals who possess information pertinent to the case are urged to contact the New West PD Major Crime Unit at 604-529-2430.
