Over 2,000 fines issued in Quebec trucking safety operation

Police in Quebec have issued more than 2,000 tickets to truck drivers during the month of October as part of a province-wide road safety initiative targeting heavy goods vehicles.

Since the start of the operation, over 1,600 heavy trucks have been intercepted, and authorities say the crackdown will continue until early 2026.

Most fines were handed out to drivers for violations such as ignoring traffic signage, following other vehicles too closely, distracted driving, not wearing seat belts, failing to yield the right-of-way, and speeding.

Authorities also noted that special attention would be paid to compliance with rules concerning vehicle owners, operators, and drivers, including the verification of driving hours.

“The operation aims to intensify surveillance, prevent risky behavior, and remind people of the importance of respecting the laws and regulations governing heavy vehicles,” said the Sûreté du Québec in a statement.

The initiative is being carried out in collaboration with Contrôle routier Québec, reflecting a joint effort to improve road safety for all users.
