Montreal and nearby areas awoke to slick roads on New Year’s Day following a snowfall that blanketed the region overnight from New Year’s Eve into Thursday.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, downtown Montreal received 13 centimetres of snow, Montreal-Trudeau Airport had 9 centimetres, Laval saw 14 centimetres, the South Shore had 10 centimetres, the North Shore received 9 centimetres, the Laurentians got 8 centimetres, and Joliette saw 7 centimetres of snow.
This recent snowfall has brought Montreal’s total recorded snowfall for December to 54.8 centimetres.
In response, city crews are actively working to clear streets, sand icy surfaces, and repair potholes throughout the region. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously, maintain safe distances between vehicles, and check road conditions before embarking on their journeys.
Authorities have confirmed that the snow has ceased, allowing crews to persist in their efforts to clear roads for safe travel.
