A tragic incident took place on New Year’s Eve in North York as a man fell to his death from a balcony, prompting an investigation by the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU).
The SIU revealed that Toronto police officers responded to a domestic violence call at an apartment building near Jane Street and Highway 401 around 11:30 p.m. on December 31, 2025. Their attempt to locate and apprehend the man involved led to the discovery of his lifeless body on the ground below. Despite the arrival of emergency medical services (EMS), the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The SIU confirmed that the victim was a 27-year-old man, and an autopsy is set to take place on January 2, 2026. Given the circumstances of the man’s fatal fall, the SIU was notified and has launched an investigation, deploying three investigators and two forensic specialists to delve into the incident further.
