A woman faces charges of impaired driving after her car collided with a train at a west-end Toronto GO station, according to officials.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene at Etobicoke North GO station on Kipling Avenue, just north of Highway 409, around 10:10 p.m. on Wednesday, as confirmed by a Toronto Police Service spokesperson speaking to CityNews.
GO Transit issued an alert that night, stating that the incident was affecting train operations on the Kitchener line due to the police investigation involving the vehicle and the train collision.
“Train services in the area are temporarily halted as a result of the incident,” the alert informed commuters, advising them to anticipate delays, service adjustments, and potential cancellations while efforts are made to restore normal operations. The use of alternate transportation options like the TTC was recommended.
The female driver involved was taken into custody by Toronto police and received medical attention for non-life-threatening injuries, while a male passenger in the vehicle emerged unharmed. Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of injuries to any train passengers.
The specific details of the crash and the events leading up to it remain unclear as investigations continue.
