Montreal Battles Pothole Epidemic: City Launches Major Street Repair Blitz!

Montreal Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada has raised concerns about the worsening condition of the city’s streets post-winter, describing it as a “catastrophic” situation due to the proliferation of potholes.

Addressing the issue, Mayor Martinez Ferrada emphasized the challenges faced by residents, stating, “Streets are almost impassable, posing a significant problem for us at the moment.”

She further highlighted the frustration expressed by residents over the apparent lack of visible repairs, particularly on key routes like Sherbrooke Street.

Acknowledging the urgency of the situation, Martinez Ferrada revealed that the city is currently in emergency mode to address the potholes but is constrained by equipment shortages.

“About 25 per cent of our equipment is either non-functional or missing,” Martinez Ferrada lamented. “Collaboration with the boroughs is underway to secure the necessary tools for street repairs.”

The mayor also cautioned that conditions are expected to deteriorate further with the onset of the spring thaw.

“The most challenging phase is yet to come – when the thaw occurs, we will face the critical task of making lasting repairs,” Martinez Ferrada stressed.

In response to the escalating problem, city officials are devising an action plan to tackle the issue effectively and prevent a recurrence next winter.

Martinez Ferrada shared, “We are conducting a comprehensive assessment across each borough to ascertain requirements and equipment for the upcoming year. We have strategized plans for spring and summer to initiate street repairs.”

Motorists are advised to exercise vigilance and caution while navigating the affected roads.

“While I cannot guarantee immediate repairs for all streets, I urge everyone to reduce speed and drive attentively to prevent vehicle damage,” Mayor Martinez Ferrada urged.
