Authorities in Arizona are actively searching for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, who was reported missing over the weekend. During a news conference, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed that signs at her home indicate it could be a crime scene and called on the community for assistance.
Sheriff Nanos expressed concerns about Nancy Guthrie’s limited mobility and stated that there were indications she did not leave on her own accord. He emphasized that she is mentally sound and not suffering from dementia, urging the public to provide any relevant information to aid in the search efforts. Nancy Guthrie, who lives alone, requires daily medication.
The elderly woman was last seen at her Tucson area residence on Saturday night, prompting her family to report her missing the following day. Search operations involving drones, search dogs, volunteers, Border Patrol, and the homicide team have been deployed to locate her. While the circumstances are still being investigated, Nanos highlighted the unusual nature of the case and did not rule out the possibility of foul play.
Despite search efforts, Nanos indicated a shift in focus from a search mission to treating the situation as a potential crime scene. Savannah Guthrie released a statement expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support and stressing the family’s primary goal of ensuring Nancy’s safe return.
