Montreal’s Île Mercier Bridge re-opens after spring flooding forced closure

Île Mercier Bridge has been re-opened as of Saturday noon after being closed due to rising water level nearly two weeks ago.

Rising water level from spring flooding had prompted officials to close the Île Mercier Bridge to vehicle traffic as of 7 p.m. April 20 in the borough of L’Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève. Pedestrians were allowed to use the bridge.

On Saturday, authorities also announced that the Chemin de l’Anse-à-l’Orme in the borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro will be re-opened starting 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The road had been closed since April 19 for traffic.

“These re-openings were made possible by a drop in water levels, which currently allows the public to move about safely,” the City said in a press release.

Authorities warn that if the water levels rise again, the routes may be closed again.

An online map showing road conditions has been made available by the Emergency Measures Coordination Centre to help residents travel safely.

City officials also recommend those living in areas with a risk of flooding subscribe to their email alerts.
