With the end of the school year fast approaching, high school students must already be preparing for their provincial exams. To help them, Alloprof has enhanced its “Major Revisions” program to offer even more comprehensive support.
These video sessions will be broadcast until June 16 on TikTok and YouTube, platforms favored by young people. They will then be available for replay on the Alloprof website. They are led by the organization’s teachers, alongside content creator Emy Lalune, a well-known figure among teenagers who also studied education.
Building on the success of last year, which brought together more than 20,000 students, Alloprof has set itself the ambitious goal of attracting 75,000 for this second edition.
It’s off to a good start: around 10,000 high school seniors attended the first session on Monday, which focused on the French exam.
Rosianne Arseneau, spokesperson for Alloprof and co-host of “Grandes révisions”, is delighted with these figures and the attitude shown by the participants at this first of eight meetings.
“We are very happy with the reception we received. It was a great success and there was a good retention rate too. The young people stayed with us until the end and there was a lot of engagement in the chat. They answered our questions and our little challenges,” she rejoiced.
Lasting approximately 45 minutes, each group revision session provides an overview of the essential concepts to master and the important instructions to remember.
Initially focused exclusively on French last year, the initiative now covers three other key subjects assessed by the Ministry of Education: mathematics, history, and science. It is aimed at students in grades 8, 10, and 11.
The content is certainly serious at its core, but the formula is also intended to be “playful and fun,” Arseneau points out.
“We provide strategies for preparation, but we also have challenging moments, interactive moments, laughs with Emy, and surprises we have in store for the students.”
After all, we need to adapt to an increasingly less captive audience. “We chose the TikTok platform to go where they are and offer them an alternative. Instead of scrolling through videos with no educational value on their phones, we offer them content that will help their academic success,” says Arseneau, an expert in educational technology.
She believes that Emy Lalune was the perfect collaborator for this project. “She’s a content creator beloved by young people. She’s very dynamic, highly regarded, and has a large following on social media, and her content focuses heavily on classrooms, school environments, and the realities of today’s youth in schools. That’s why we chose her. We’re really happy with our choice.”
In support of teachers
With this “improved version,” Alloprof aims to address the achievement gaps observed nationwide. While recent results in science and history show progress, French and mathematics remain difficult subjects for many students to grasp, hence the need for targeted preparation tailored to each exam.
“The exam period generates significant pressure and each young person reacts differently: some get discouraged, others get stuck on certain concepts. With the “Big Revisions”, we are taking things to the next level by offering concrete and motivating guidance to help students, especially the most anxious, to better organize themselves and prepare effectively for the ministerial exams,” explains Sandrine Faust, CEO of Alloprof.
“Our goal is to work in partnership with teachers to reassure young people and help them approach their exams with confidence,” she adds.
All the details, including the schedule and the revision kit to start studying right away, are available on the website www.grandesrevisions.ca.
Tools for parents
Alongside activities for secondary school students, the Alloprof team has created the “Allofrançais Pathways” for primary school students, as well as a webinar for parents.
Offered in short sequences of about 20 minutes, these interactive modules are dedicated to consolidating basic writing skills for children in the second and third cycles of primary school.
Launched just in time for the preparation of end-of-year assessments, they allow students to acquire concrete strategies to revise and improve their texts while progressing at their own pace.
To maximize its impact, Alloprof is also setting up a “Big Revision” designed for parents of fourth and sixth grade students in preparation for the ministerial French exams.
This session, offered as a webinar on May 12 at 7:30 p.m. on the Alloprof website, will give them tips and tricks to support their child.
