The CEO of T&T Supermarket took to social media to express her solidarity with Kim’s Café, a sandwich store in Londsdale that experienced an incident of racism.
Executive Tina Lee says on Sunday that the Osaka subsidiary in North Vancouver is providing discounts in support of the business.
According to a video uploaded to Lee’s private Instagram account, the Osaka Supermarket at the Park Royal Shopping Centre will offer a $10 discount to customers of the sandwich store.
“Spend $20 on a meal and keep the receipt. This receipt is now a $10 coupon you can use at my store, Osaka Supermarket in Park Royal mall, also in North Vancouver,” Lee said in the video.
She hopes this will encourage T&T Supermarket customers to support Kim’s Café and its owner, Dooyi Kim.
“We are neighbours with Kim’s Café,” Lee added.
“I just wanted to show a little bit of love. Forward this to anyone living in North Vancouver. Let’s give her some love. Osaka is going to pitch it.”
The offer will run from now until May 15.
Earlier this month, Kim’s Cafe posted a video of a customer shouting at Kim, ‘Go back to your country.’
According to Kim, the customer ordered three sandwiches, picked up the order, but returned to the store 20 minutes later because they realized that they had taken another customer’s order “without asking” and requested a refund without bringing back the ordered items.
Kim says that she refused to process the refund as the order was not returned.
During that altercation, the customer threatened to try to shut down the business.
Kim adds that the customers returned the next day, repeating her threats against the store and insulting Kim with a racist comment.
The security footage of that second altercation shows that the customer kept ranting even when she was outside the store.
Kim is thankful for the support and says that some employees from the T&T Osaka Supermarket recently visited the cafe.
