The body of a woman was found lifeless Saturday afternoon in an apartment in the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough of Montreal.
The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) confirmed that this was the 15th murder to occur on Montreal territory since the beginning of the year.
Police officers were called Saturday around 1:45 p.m. to an apartment on 9 Avenue, near Crémazie Boulevard East, to validate the state of health of an individual, said Jeanne Drouin, spokesperson for the SPVM.
Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered the body of a woman unresponsive inside the apartment, Drouin said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman’s identity has still not been confirmed.
Patrol officers also found a 51-year-old man at the same location with serious injuries to his upper body.
“He is considered a suspect at this stage of the investigation,” said Johany Charland, spokesperson for the SPVM, in an update around 10 p.m.
The SPVM confirmed Sunday that the injuries of the two people involved were caused by a possibly sharp object.
The man was transported by Urgences-santé to a hospital where his condition was still considered critical Sunday morning.
The exact nature of the relationship between the two people was yet to be determined.
