Richmond Mounties arrest 15 during ‘Boost and Bust’ retail theft enforcement

Richmond RCMP arrested 15 individuals during a one-day retail theft enforcement operation on April 20.

This was part of the detachment’s ongoing “Boost and Bust” initiative targeting property crime in Richmond’s downtown core.

The initiative brought together frontline officers working in plainclothes and Loss Prevention Officers (LPOs) from multiple retail partners across Richmond’s commercial areas.

The dual approach allowed LPOs to relay information in real time to a dedicated police surveillance and enforcement team, allowing for targeted timely arrests.

Mounties arrested a total of 15 individuals, eight males and seven females. Three of those arrested were youths.

Charges of theft under $5,000 will be recommended against 10 individuals.

Eight of those arrested had prior negative interactions or history with police.

Seven of the individuals are Richmond residents, while the others are from Vancouver (three), Langford (two), Delta, Kelowna, and Nanaimo.

One individual was also arrested on an outstanding warrant and was held in custody.

“These targeted operations demonstrate the value of intelligence-led policing and strong partnerships with local retailers,” said Insp. Vaz Kassam, Richmond RCMP Operations Officer. “Retail theft affects businesses, staff and the broader community. By working together, we can disrupt this activity and help maintain a safe environment for everyone who lives, works and shops in Richmond.”

Food, clothing, and cosmetics were among the items most frequently targeted. Recovered merchandise is valued at approximately $3,453.55.
