REM to open later on weekends through mid-august for airport extension work

Riders of the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) will need to adjust their weekend travel plans this summer, as the network will open later on Saturdays and Sundays from June 6 to Aug. 16.

Pulsar, the operator of the REM, announced the temporary schedule changes to allow crews more time to complete testing and maintenance work tied to the network’s planned extension to Montréal–Trudeau International Airport.

Under the revised schedule, the first REM trains will begin service at 7:30 a.m. on Saturdays. On Sundays, service will start either at 7:30 a.m. or noon, depending on the work being carried out. Service will also begin at noon on Canada Day, July 1, at the Brossard, Deux-Montagnes and Anse-à-l’Orme stations.

According to Pulsar, the adjustments are necessary because maintenance teams typically have only four hours each night to work on the network. The extended weekend windows will support airport connection work, expanded maintenance operations and projects scheduled during periods of lower ridership.

The REM has experienced several service interruptions in recent years, including disruptions during peak travel periods. Pulsar said station signage and information screens will be updated to help passengers navigate the temporary schedule changes.

Alternative transportation options will be available, and riders are encouraged to check rem.info or their preferred trip-planning app before travelling.

Pulsar noted that the late-opening schedule remains subject to change as work progresses.
