Memorial gathering Tuesday for toddler fatally injured in LaSalle bouncy castle tragedy

The life of young Ava Ciampini is being celebrated in LaSalle Tuesday evening, with all Montrealers encouraged to come share their love and support.

The three-year-old’s family and community are in mourning following the fatal incident at a gathering in LaSalle’s Ouellette Park on May 31.

A bouncy castle Ava was playing in was thrown into the air by strong winds and then crashed to the ground. Eleven people were injured, of which six were taken to hospital.

Ava was critically injured and did not survive.

Mourners are encouraged to wear bright clothes in Ava’s honour and to come with “memories, smiles, and love for our little superhero.”

The toddler is being described in an online fundraiser as “the light of every room she walked into, and the hole she leaves behind is impossible to put into words.”

The fundraiser has collected more than $440,000 in a week.

“The love and support surrounding our family over these past days has been overwhelming,” Ava’s father Luca Ciampini wrote on Instagram last week. “From close friends to people who have never met us, thousands of you have donated, shared, and reached out, and every message and every gesture has helped carry some of the weight.

“Arielle and I are endlessly grateful. You have reminded us, in the hardest chapter of our lives, that we are not alone. We hold Ava in our hearts, always.”
