Construction on new REM stations in Bridge-Bonaventure, Griffintown could begin in 2028

Construction on two long-promised REM stations could begin in two years.

The Griffintown–Bernard-Landry and Bridge–Bonaventure stations are now in the planning phase, with construction set to begin in 2028 and an estimated completion date in 2030.

CDPQ Infra, which is responsible for developing the REM, unveiled that timeline Tuesday.

The planning phase includes procurement processes and technical and environmental studies. It will analyze the best approaches to limit construction impacts on residents and existing REM service.

“The start of planning work for the two new REM stations represents an important step toward providing the population with faster, more efficient, and sustainable transportation options,” said Benoit Charette, Quebec’s minister of transport and sustainable mobility. “The presence of a REM station within a neighbourhood has positive impacts not only on mobility, but also on residents’ quality of life. For all these reasons, this is excellent news for Montréal and the surrounding areas.”

The Griffintown–Bernard-Landry station would serve the north side of the Lachine Canal. The Bridge–Bonaventure station would serve the south side of the Lachine Canal and support the development of the Wellington Basin sector.
