OQLF received record-high 11,000 complaints in 2025-26

Complaints to Quebec’s language watchdog have hit an all-time high.

The Office québécois de la langue française (OQLF) says it received 11,000 complaints between April 1, 2025, and March 31 of this year.

That’s a seven per cent increase year over year from the more than 10,000 complaints last year.

Language of service remains the most common grievance, making up 35 per cent of total complaints. Language of commercial documentation came in a close second at 33 per cent.

More than half of the complaints were against businesses in the Montreal area.

The OQLF says the increasing number of complaints continues to reflect the growing concern of Quebecers about their right to work, to be informed and to receive services in French.
