The Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal and POP Montreal is organizing a festival to mark the National Indigenous Peoples Day Sunday.
The free event at Cabot Square will include live music, traditional performances, Indigenous artisans and activities for families.
Organizers say, in case of rain, the event will be moved to Centre Sanaaq, located nearby.
The lineup features Indigenous artists and performers like The Hello Crows, Linda Saddleback & Willie Thrasher, Leonard Summer, Kris Kinokewin, Manitou Singers, Sinquah Family Dance Troupe, Elder Ka’nahsohon Kevin Deer. Concerts begin at 3 p.m.
Organizers say the event celebrates cultures, contributions, histories, and resilience of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples and aims to create connections with the community.
“As Indigenous people we continue to push forward through our many challenges but on June 21st, we celebrate our cultural pride,” said Na’kuset, the executive director of the Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal.
