Port Moody police chief to retire

David Fleugel, the Chief Constable of the Port Moody Police Department (PMPD), has announced that he is going to retire at the end of 2026.

The Port Moody Police Board says on Tuesday that Fleugel has notified the committee of his decision.

The board adds that it will launch a recruitment process to find a replacement.

Fleugel says that he hopes to support a “thoughtful leadership transition” before the end of his service.

“Under his leadership, Port Moody has remained one of the safest communities in British Columbia, reflecting his focus on community-based policing, crime prevention, and public trust,” the board said in a statement.

Port Moody Mayor Meghan Lahti says that Fleugel “has demonstrated unwavering dedication to public safety and has guided the department with professionalism and integrity.”

Fleugel has been a police officer for more than 30 years and has held the role as chief of the PMPD since 2017.
