Vancouver Goldeneyes welcome first overall pick

A warm welcome to the PWHL’s first overall draft pick, Caroline ‘KK’ Harvey, as she arrived in Vancouver.

The 23-year-old New Hampshire native is a three-time NCAA champion with the University of Wisconsin and an Olympic gold medalist with Team USA.

“I’ve always told my family I wanted to live in Canada, so the opportunity is presenting itself now. Can’t wait to get going. I’ve heard great things not only about Vancouver and about the fan base and everything,” she told reporters near False Creek in Vancouver.

Harvey was named MVP and best defender at this year’s Milano Cortina Olympic Winter Games.

Goldeneyes GM Cara Gardner Morey is calling her an elite player who will fit in well at the Pacific Coliseum.

“She is very young, and there’s still a learning curve, but she certainly has the tools; she has shown she can play these plays at a very high level and hearing her willingness and desire to be in Vancouver is special and knowing she will fit in our locker room,” Gardner Morey said.

Harvey says she is looking forward to immersing herself fully in Vancouver’s hockey culture and playing alongside fellow Goldeneyes.

“Players like Sophie Jacques, obviously, she is an amazing defender. I hope to get the opportunity to play with her. Sarah Nurse, to get her the puck, and I know she will score.”

The Goldeneyes lost three players in the expansion draft, and the hunt for a new head coach will soon be underway.
