Five people have been displaced after a fire at a house on Granville Street early Thursday morning, Vancouver Fire Rescue tells 1130 NewsRadio.
Assistant Fire Chief Arnie Groenewegen says crews were called to the home, located at West 50th Avenue, shortly before 2 a.m.
He says the house is no longer livable.
“It’s an older house that sustained enough damage where they’re probably not going to rebuild,” he said.
“It’s in an area where they’re tearing down a lot of these homes.”
He says the cause is not yet clear, but evidence suggests the fire was accidental.
Greonewegen says in addition to the five residents, there were two visitors in the home at the time.
No injuries have been reported, he says.
“The tenants thankfully got out by having a working smoke detector in the home.”
Crews say fire investigators will be working in the area Thursday morning.
