A man from Ontario, Guramrit Sidhu, has been given a 20-year prison sentence in the United States for orchestrating a drug-trafficking network that extended into Canada. Sidhu, hailing from Brampton, Ontario, admitted to spearheading this illicit operation between September 2020 and February 2023.
During his trial in California, it was revealed that from September to October 2022, over 500 kilograms of methamphetamine and close to 350 kilograms of cocaine were transported from the U.S. to Canada as part of the drug ring. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California estimated the value of these drug shipments at up to US$17 million.
In October 2024, Sidhu was apprehended and sent to the U.S. following his extradition. Notably, he is the eighth individual to confess to wrongdoing in connection to this case.
This significant development underscores the international nature of the drug trade and the efforts to combat such criminal activities.
