“Urgent Evacuation Orders Issued in East Kootenay as Wildfire Rages: BC Wildfire Service Sounds the Alarm”

More than 70 properties in the East Kootenay area are currently on high alert for evacuation due to the escalating Lussier River wildfire.

Residents in the Premier Lake vicinity are facing the looming threat of yet another devastating wildfire outbreak.

The recent milder temperatures over the weekend have provided some relief for the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) in their ongoing battle against the flames.

Despite the progress made, BCWS officials are cautioning against actions that could impede their firefighting efforts.

Following the reopening of Highway 1 between Boston Bar and Jackass Summit on Saturday, reckless drivers have been observed speeding through the affected zones.

BCWS emphasizes that the speed limit of 60 km/hr must be adhered to, and the area is designated as a no-stopping zone.

In a concerning trend, motorists have been disregarding safety protocols by racing through the fire-impacted area and stopping to record videos of the firefighting operations.

Additionally, BCWS encountered a drone flying in close proximity to the Brunswick Creek wildfire, a dangerous situation that prompted the temporary suspension of helicopter and airtanker operations.

BCWS warns that violations of flight restrictions can result in hefty fines of up to $25,000 and potential jail time of up to 18 months, due to the severe risks posed to both emergency crews and the general public.
