“Quebec Takes Flight: Major Initiatives Launched to Boost Aerospace Workforce”

The Minister of Economy, Innovation, and Energy, Bernard Drainville, has revealed exciting new plans to enhance the training of aerospace professionals as the global defense sector experiences remarkable growth.

Making the announcement in Mirabel, a key aerospace hub, Drainville detailed the initiatives on Monday. Quebec is set to boost the enrollment capacity of the École nationale d’aérotechnique (ENA) in Longueuil by 70%, accommodating 375 students in its DEC programs for aircraft mechanics and avionics this autumn. Additionally, 56 students will be admitted to programs leading to a college studies certificate (AEC).

Looking ahead, the government is also planning to establish a second ENA campus on the North Shore to further support the aerospace industry.

Furthermore, two innovative skills-based training programs are slated to launch in the Saint-Laurent borough, at Bombardier’s facilities, and in Mirabel. These pilot projects are expected to become permanent by fall 2027, enabling students to earn a college diploma (AEC).

Drainville emphasized the importance of skilled workers for the industry’s growth and success, stating, “Our companies need skilled workers to continue innovating, winning new contracts, and creating good jobs here in Quebec. With the initiatives announced today, we are giving more young people and workers the opportunity to train and participate in the growth of this strategic industry.”
