The union representing outdoor workers in Metro Vancouver has reported positive developments in ongoing mediation at the Labour Relations Board. As talks progress, the possibility of job action and a complete strike has been temporarily postponed.
Jesse Medeiros, the president of the Greater Vancouver Regional District Employees’ Union (GVRDEU), has stated that the pause in potential strike actions will remain in effect while the union’s bargaining committee seeks feedback from its members.
Medeiros emphasized the importance of reaching a tentative agreement with Metro Vancouver to present to the union members. The decision to hold off on a full-scale strike is aimed at fostering further progress in the negotiations.
Previously, the GVRDEU had indicated a significant escalation in job actions, warning of the looming threat of a prolonged strike if an agreement was not reached soon. Mediation commenced on Saturday to address the concerns and demands of the union.
With over 750 members under its representation, the union plays a crucial role in overseeing outdoor services such as regional parks and wastewater treatment plants throughout the region.
