Police Detain Two Suspects Linked to Anti-Semitic Attacks on Hasidic Community

Montreal police have apprehended two individuals in connection to recent attacks targeting members of the Jewish community on July 3 in the city.

According to the Jewish Hasidic Council of Quebec (CJHQ), a group of men returning from a synagogue after Shabbat services were reportedly harassed by individuals driving through the neighborhood.

The victims endured verbal abuse, antisemitic slurs, physical aggression, and objects being thrown at them, as stated by the organization in a Facebook post.

In a related development, security camera footage released by the council depicts a car pulling up alongside the sidewalk. A man exits the vehicle, attempts to forcibly remove a traditional head covering called a shtreimel from a pedestrian, taunts him, and quickly returns to the car before driving away.

Although the police managed to detain two suspects on July 14 and 15, they have since been released pending a court appearance scheduled for 2027.
