Parti Québécois recruiting another journalist for elections

The Parti Québécois (PQ) has recruited another journalist ahead of the fall elections. This time, it’s Stéphanie Martin, from the “Journal de Québec,” who is making the leap.

Martin, who also worked at “Le Soleil” for many years, will try to get elected in the Vanier-Les Rivières riding in Quebec City.

In a statement released Monday morning by the Parti Québécois, the journalist asserts that the Capitale-Nationale region has been “neglected” in recent years, while it faces “a significant increase in social issues, including an explosion of homelessness.”

The PQ leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon was also pleased with the arrival of Martin.

“Stéphanie’s candidacy adds to a solid team that the Parti Québécois is putting together for the Capitale-Nationale region,” he emphasized on social media.

Stéphanie Martin, also the author of five historical novels, also displays her pro-independence convictions.

“I also want to convince people from the generation that preceded me to return home. Not forgetting my own pragmatic generation, which needs to hear the arguments for independence,” she argued.

The PQ had announced at the beginning of the month the candidacy of another journalist from Quebecor media, Jean-François Cloutier, who will carry the PQ colours in the riding of Montarville.

The party also has in its caucus former Radio-Canada journalist Alex Boissonneault, who was elected in 2025 in the Arthabaska by-election.

The Quebec elections are scheduled for October 5th. Premier Christine Fréchette has not yet officially called the vote.
