Tragedy struck in Toronto’s east end as a young man lost his life in a train accident late Tuesday night. The incident occurred near the Rail Garden on Woodfield Rd., close to Danforth Avenue and Greenwood Avenue. Emergency services rushed to the scene around 11 p.m. following reports of a pedestrian being hit by a train.
According to Toronto police as reported by 680 NewsRadio, the teenage boy was walking along the tracks with a girl when they were caught in a perilous situation involving two approaching trains. It is believed that in an attempt to dodge the first train, the boy failed to notice the second train, resulting in a fatal collision. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The train that struck the teenager was identified as a GO Transit work train, which was transporting rail workers and not passengers. Fortunately, the girl accompanying the victim escaped unharmed.
Following the incident, Traffic Services officers arrived and confirmed the victim’s identity as an 18-year-old male. At this time, authorities do not suspect any foul play in the tragic event, though the reasons behind the teens’ presence on the tracks remain undisclosed.
