In a recent development, Air Canada has taken action by suspending two employees who were arrested by the RCMP in connection with alleged drug trafficking activities involving cocaine and cannabis at Montréal-Trudeau Airport.
The airline refrained from providing additional details regarding the arrests, while the RCMP confirmed the release of the detained workers. The two employees could potentially face charges for their involvement in a scheme to illicitly move luggage through the airport’s secure areas, aiding in the transportation of cocaine into Canada and cannabis out of the country.
The investigation commenced in May following the interception of 62.5 kg of cocaine concealed in backpacks from a flight originating in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Additionally, 56 kg of cannabis were seized during the probe.
According to RCMP spokesperson Marie-Pierre Guertin, further arrests may be made as the case unfolds. Guertin highlighted that this incident is not isolated, citing a similar drug-related arrest involving an Air Canada employee at Toronto Pearson International Airport earlier this year.
