1. David Bezmozgis, the writer-director behind the film adaptation of his novel “The Betrayers,” faced the challenge of adjusting to a new geopolitical landscape while transitioning the story to the big screen. 2. “The Betrayers,” Bezmozgis’s acclaimed second novel, delves into the story of a disgraced Israeli politician seeking refuge in Crimea and encountering his former betrayer. Reflecting on the past twelve years since the book’s publication, Bezmozgis highlighted the ongoing relevance of themes surrounding Russia’s relationship with Ukraine and Israel’s dynamics with the occupied West Bank. The film adaptation, updated to address current world events, will be screened on Saturday, Sept. 12 and Monday, Sept. 14.
