Get ready for a thrilling Halloween celebration in the Church-Wellesley neighborhood that promises to be spooktacular! The upcoming two-day event will bring out ghoulish goblins and captivating creatures as it takes over the area.
Scheduled to kick off next week, the annual event will transform a parking lot at the intersection of Church and Maitland Streets into a bewitching beer garden filled with eerie delights.
Starting at 8 p.m. on Friday, the party will run until midnight with an electrifying stage show featuring mesmerizing drag performances by local queens such as Sofonda Cox, Boa, Ari Darlin, Georgina Hudson, Jayjay Kings, and more. Attendees can also look forward to a thrilling Michael Jackson tribute and a special homage to the beloved Dolly Parton.
On Saturday, a six-block stretch of Church Street will be closed for a lively street festival from the evening until the early hours of Sunday morning. This longstanding tradition, dating back to the 1960s, holds significant importance for the LGBTQ2S+ community and local businesses, drawing in a large crowd each year.
With an estimated cost exceeding $100,000, the event will be supported by the Church Wellesley Business Improvement Association, with additional funding from the City of Toronto. The festival relies on these contributions to cover expenses, setting the stage for an unforgettable celebration.
As part of the festivities, liquor license extensions have been secured for several local bars and restaurants, allowing them to serve alcohol until 4 a.m. on both event nights. This initiative not only enhances the experience for attendees but also provides vital support to the area’s businesses.
Toronto drag icon Sofonda Cox is gearing up to dazzle audiences with multiple performances throughout the weekend, promising a spectacle of extravagant costumes and captivating characters. With her elaborate preparations, she aims to elevate the event to new heights of entertainment.
