Toronto police investigators have reported a disturbing case where suspects attempted to scam a homeowner by posing as roofing fraud inspectors. The alleged scammers first claimed to be investigating roofing scams in the area and offered free repairs, only to later demand payment for unnecessary work when the homeowner refused their initial offer.
According to police, the suspects later returned to the property and deliberately damaged the homeowner’s roof and fence when their scheme was unsuccessful. The incident occurred between August 10 and August 24 in the Mount Pleasant Road and Elm Avenue area.
To prevent falling victim to similar scams, Toronto police advise residents to be cautious of unsolicited contractors who use high-pressure tactics and demand upfront payment. They recommend researching and selecting reputable companies, obtaining detailed written contracts, and avoiding impulse decisions when hiring contractors.
