Christine Angelis has lovingly tended to her daughter’s memorial for years, dedicating herself to maintaining the sacred space with weekly visits to mow the grass, straighten the signage, and arrange the notes and mementos left by loved ones. However, the tranquility of this ritual was shattered last weekend when she arrived to find the site in disarray.
“I was in shock. It was a scene of devastation with glass scattered everywhere,” Angelis recounted.
The meticulously cared-for memorial had been vandalized, with sentimental tokens callously tossed into a nearby dumpster. Adding to the distress, Angelis discovered a harsh note attached to her daughter’s picture, urging her to seek assistance and let go of the memorial.
“These heartless individuals expressed their disdain for the memorial and warned me to remove it, or they would do so themselves,” she shared with a heavy heart.
Located outside Alpha Secondary in Burnaby, the memorial marks the tragic site where Kiesha Garie and her fiancé, Umair Kasim, were discovered deceased in 2022, victims of a double homicide that, to this day, remains unresolved.
Despite the passage of nearly four years, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team reassures the public that they are actively pursuing leads and investigating the deaths of both Kiesha and Umair.
