Teen Left with Serious, Life-Altering Injuries After E-Scooter Crash in Pickering

A teenage rider of an electric scooter suffered severe injuries in a collision with a vehicle in Pickering on Tuesday evening.

According to the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS), the incident took place at the intersection of Whites Road and Finch Avenue around 7 p.m.

The collision occurred as a grey Toyota Sienna mini-van was turning right while heading northbound on Whites Road, colliding with the electric scooter in the crosswalk, as per a statement from DRPS.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the 16-year-old scooter rider with serious injuries. He was rushed to a trauma center in Toronto, where he is currently in stable condition.

The 43-year-old driver of the mini-van stayed at the scene, and local roads were shut down for several hours following the incident.

The DRPS Collision Investigation Unit is actively looking into the circumstances that led to the crash.
