Four individuals have been found guilty and given prison sentences for their involvement in the tragic death of Ryan Nagy in 2023, as reported by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).
On June 29, 2023, the Burnaby RCMP responded to a distress call at a residence on 17th Avenue near Canada Way, where they discovered 19-year-old Nagy critically injured. Despite efforts to save him, Nagy passed away at the scene.
Court records reveal that the four perpetrators, consisting of three men and one woman, had premeditated a home invasion to steal firearms from the property. Nagy and his girlfriend were restrained, and Nagy was fatally stabbed during the incident. Fortunately, his girlfriend sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was found nearby. Nagy’s father interrupted the crime upon returning home.
In a recent update, Rhoda Diabikulu, who was 23 at the time of the offense, was sentenced to seven years in prison for manslaughter after pleading guilty in March 2026. The other three culprits — Ali Shamkhi, Rais Usman, and Ousmane Keita, all 20 years old at the time of the crime — had previously been sentenced earlier this year.
Shamkhi received a 10.5-year sentence on March 5 for manslaughter and unrelated firearms charges. Usman was sentenced on April 23 to six years for manslaughter, while Keita was handed a six-year sentence on June 12, also for manslaughter. Additionally, all four individuals have been barred from possessing firearms for life and are subject to DNA orders.
