Three British Columbia legislators have recently made headlines by departing the Conservative caucus to join a newly emerging political party.
Rosalyn Bird, Bruce Banman, and A’a:liya Warbus have announced their decision to align with a party in the works, spearheaded by Peter Milobar and Ian Paton.
Milobar and Paton, alongside the trio, made their exit from the Conservative caucus, led by Kerry-Lynne Findlay.
According to a joint statement by the legislators, the new party is gearing up for a leadership vote prior to the legislative session restarting on October 5, with Milobar stepping in as the interim leader.
The party aims to secure official third-party status, currently occupying five seats within the legislature.
The departure from the Conservative caucus has seen a significant number of defections, with a total of nine members leaving due to dissatisfaction with Findlay’s leadership following her narrow victory in May.
The most recent departures include Scott McInnis and Donegal Wilson, who exited on Wednesday.
