Today, a key individual involved in the notorious gold heist at Toronto’s Pearson airport is providing testimony in the trial of another defendant linked to the case.
Arsalan Chaudhary, who previously received a four-year prison sentence for his involvement in the theft exceeding $5,000, is now on the witness stand. He has been ordered to repay $22 million in restitution over a span of 40 years.
The ongoing trial involves Parmpal Sidhu, who maintains his innocence against charges of theft over $5,000 and conspiracy to commit a serious crime related to the 2023 heist. Prosecutors claim that Sidhu, a former Air Canada employee, allegedly facilitated the heist by providing a modified waybill, enabling another individual to collect over $22 million worth of gold and currency from a cargo bay at Pearson airport. This incident has been labelled as one of the largest gold thefts in Canadian history by investigators.
Authorities from Peel regional police disclosed that the theft, which occurred on April 17, 2023, resulted in the disappearance of 6,600 gold bars weighing over 400 kilograms from the airport.
The trial of Sidhu is currently underway in Brampton, Ontario.
