The Parti Québécois (PQ) has raised concerns over the recent election results in the Champlain riding, located in the Mauricie region, where they lost by a narrow margin of 191 votes. A party official revealed on Tuesday that discrepancies were discovered during the vote count on October 5th.
The PQ alleges that 80 ballots are missing from one ballot box and approximately 30 from another, prompting them to call for a judicial recount. Despite not meeting the official criteria for an automatic recount due to the margin being less than one-thousandth of the votes cast, the PQ is determined to pursue the matter in court, confident in their evidence.
In a similar move, the PQ has also requested a recount in the Vachon riding in the Montérégie region. The recount was granted by the Court of Québec and is scheduled to commence on October 19, expected to last for three days. In Vachon, the PQ candidate was narrowly defeated by just 10 votes, sparking further scrutiny into the election process.
The PQ aims to bring transparency and clarity to the electoral process in both Champlain and Vachon, emphasizing the importance of ensuring accurate and fair outcomes in democratic proceedings.
