Montreal residents are called to join Quebec’s yearly earthquake readiness drill this Thursday morning.
Known as the Great ShakeOut, the drill is set for 10:15 a.m. on October 15 and is happening across the province.
The City of Montreal is advising residents to practice three key steps during the exercise: drop to the ground, seek cover, and hold on until the shaking stops.
These actions are aimed at minimizing the risk of injuries in the event of an earthquake.
Given Montreal’s location in a seismic zone, the city stresses the significance of earthquake preparedness in emergency planning.
The Great ShakeOut is a yearly event held every third Thursday of October, with the goal of enhancing awareness about earthquake hazards and prompting residents, schools, businesses, and organizations to review and update their emergency plans and supplies.
According to the city, being prepared plays a crucial role in safeguarding individuals and their communities during a disaster.
