Following a joint investigation involving multiple police agencies in the Lower Mainland, two individuals have been arrested and charges have been filed against one of them, according to law enforcement officials.
Christian Darren Leggatt is facing charges for possession of stolen property, possession of a dangerous weapon, intimidation by threats or violence, and assault with a weapon.
The incident began on Oct. 1 when Pitt Meadows RCMP responded to a theft report at Meadowtown Shopping Centre. Loss prevention officers had stopped a woman, who managed to escape with the help of a male accomplice believed to be armed.
After identifying the car the suspect was in, law enforcement agencies across the Lower Mainland were alerted. BC Highway Patrol’s Prohibited Driver Enforcement Team located the vehicle in Maple Ridge on Oct. 2, initiating surveillance. Maple Ridge RCMP, Coquitlam RCMP Strike Force Team, and the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service joined the surveillance efforts.
The car was eventually spotted in Port Coquitlam, leading to the arrest of the two occupants.
While the female associate of Leggatt has been released pending a future court date, no charges have been pressed against her yet. Leggatt remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
