Police Crack Case: White Van Identified in Tragic Vaughan Hit-and-Run Death of Woman

York Regional Police have revealed that a white Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van, produced between 2020 and 2022, is the suspected vehicle involved in a tragic hit-and-run incident in Vaughan earlier this month.

The incident occurred on October 4th when a woman, identified as 60-year-old Marietta Esguerra, a Richmond Hill resident and live-in caregiver, was walking along Pine Valley Drive. She was struck by a northbound vehicle near Major Mackenzie Drive at around 8:30 p.m. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, leaving Esguerra with fatal injuries.

Following a public appeal for information, investigators were able to locate security footage that captured the suspect vehicle. Debris recovered from the scene has been confirmed to belong to a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, strengthening the connection to the hit-and-run.

The footage shows the white Mercedes-Benz Sprinter turning into a nearby subdivision shortly after the time of the incident. Despite identifying the vehicle model and make, the police have not yet located the van or its driver and are actively seeking both.

Furthermore, the police are cautioning individuals against assisting the driver in hiding, repairing, or altering the vehicle, stressing that such actions may constitute a criminal offense.

Mechanics, body shop operators, or anyone who has recently worked on a white Mercedes-Benz Sprinter matching the description are urged to cease any repairs and reach out to the authorities promptly.
