Québec solidaire (QS) has appointed Alexandre Leduc, the Member of the National Assembly (MNA) for Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, as its parliamentary leader, relying on his valuable experience for the pivotal position.
The party revealed this decision on Tuesday morning, just before the swearing-in ceremony of its MNAs at the National Assembly’s Red Room later in the day.
Leduc is no stranger to this role, having previously served as the leader of QS from 2022 to 2025. Following his tenure, Guillaume Cliche-Rivard took over but was not re-elected in the recent polls.
In a statement, QS spokesperson Ruba Ghazal emphasized Leduc’s crucial advantage in the parliamentary arena – his experience.
Ghazal praised Leduc as a “remarkable parliamentary leader who effectively navigated the challenges posed by the CAQ’s supermajority in the previous term.”
“His deep understanding of parliamentary processes and rules will ensure the entire Solidarity caucus excels in parliamentary committees and question periods,” she added.
Leduc has been representing the constituents of Hochelaga-Maisonneuve in the National Assembly since 2018.
Additionally, QS revealed that Stéphanie Vachon, the new MNA for Sherbrooke, will serve as the whip, and Etienne Grandmont, the MNA for Taschereau, will act as the deputy leader.
After securing nine seats in the recent elections on October 5th, QS will have two fewer seats in the National Assembly compared to the previous term.
