A 17-year-old teenager from Toronto is in hot water as police claim he was caught driving under the influence, narrowly avoiding a pedestrian and continuing to drive despite a missing tire.
Authorities sprang into action following several reports of an impaired driver in the Danforth Road and Eglinton Avenue East vicinity in Scarborough around 8:55 p.m. on October 9.
Allegedly, the teen was not in a fit state to drive and was maneuvering the vehicle in a reckless manner.
Law enforcement also claims that the vehicle came close to hitting a pedestrian and was being driven with its rims on the road due to a front tire being absent.
Thanks to the Toronto Police Service Air Support Unit’s aerial assistance, ground officers were able to locate and safely intercept the vehicle, leading to the arrest of the young driver.
The 17-year-old boy faces a slew of charges, including impaired operation of a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit, failure to comply with a Youth Criminal Justice Act sentence, driving under the influence as a novice driver, and operating a vehicle without a qualified accompanying driver as a G1 license holder.
The accused is set to make a court appearance on November 6, with their identity protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
