A simple desire from a young boy to support breast cancer research has blossomed into a remarkable movement that has raised over $3 million for breast cancer research in the Greater Montreal area.
Maroush Kalfaian Soukiassian, a breast cancer survivor, reflects on the journey, emphasizing that cancer is no longer synonymous with a death sentence. She shares her experience of resilience and the importance of facing the diagnosis head-on.
Denise Vourtzoumis initiated fundraising efforts in 2006 when her son, at just 11 years old, expressed a wish to contribute to breast cancer causes. This led to the establishment of Pink in the City, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the Breast Centre of the MUHC Foundation.
With a focus on inclusivity, Vourtzoumis highlights that breast cancer affects individuals from all walks of life, emphasizing the need for unity within their diverse community.
The annual gala, The Magic of Hope, serves as a platform to unite supporters and survivors, symbolized by a pink carpet event. This year’s gala, held at Le Château Royal in Laval, aims to raise additional funds for the Breast Centre of the MUHC Foundation to expand their support for women in need.
