Jean-François Kacou, leader of Futur Montréal and a mayoral candidate, has unveiled his ambitious official platform that focuses on key issues such as transportation, housing affordability, and homelessness. If successful in the upcoming mayoral race on Nov. 2, Kacou has pledged to implement significant changes to address these pressing concerns.
During a recent press conference, Kacou outlined his strategy to combat homelessness by introducing a pioneering initiative to convert industrial spaces into transitional housing units. The plan involves transforming unused areas into fully-equipped living spaces, with the provision of essential services like food and medical assistance. Additionally, relocation support will be offered to individuals currently residing in homeless encampments, enabling them to move into these new accommodations.
Furthermore, Kacou has committed to enhancing the city’s public transportation system by revolutionizing the bus network to operate at a frequency of every 15 minutes, seven days a week. Simultaneously, he aims to improve cycling infrastructure to ensure safer and more accessible pathways for cyclists.
In a bid to address housing challenges, Futur Montréal plans to establish designated student housing zones and replace the existing 20-20-20 rule. This policy change will eliminate the requirement for developers to allocate 20 percent of new housing units for social, family, and affordable housing, offering a more flexible approach to meet diverse housing needs. Kacou has also emphasized the importance of investing in renewable energy projects to promote sustainability within the city.
Expressing confidence in his team’s readiness and determination, Kacou declared their commitment to advancing these transformative initiatives leading up to the election day on Nov. 2.
